The BS of Political Promises and the Reality of Legislative Stagnation

Hey there Folks!
Melvin P. Atwater here and you’re not gonna believe the big old Bag of BS I have for you today!
I’m sure a few of you will call BS on it, but it’s on the internet so it must be real! Quantum Universe and all, you know. Maybe not here and maybe not now, but somewhere, somehow.
The logic is infallible!
-Sincerely,
Melvin P. Atwater

As a keen observer of the political landscape, I’ve noticed a recurring theme that’s as prevalent as cow pies in a pasture: the disconnect between political promises and legislative action. A prime example of this is the recent activity (or lack thereof) in the New York State Senate.

According to a recent Politico report, the Senate was set to pass a package of health affordability bills. These bills, which include provisions for the state to contract for its own prescription drugs and allow New Yorkers to import medicine from Canada, were touted as a major step towards affordability. Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins made it clear that these bills were designed to help working- and middle-class people.

However, despite the grand promises and press conferences, the reality is a series of stalled bills and a lack of significant two-way agreements. Most of these bills had previously passed the Senate in 2023 but stalled in the Assembly. This legislative stagnation has become a theme in the 2024 session, with both houses passing bills that were approved by only their chamber last year but stalled in the other.

So, while the Senate Majority Leader assures us that they are ‘always in conversations with our colleagues in the Assembly,’ the reality is a legislative process ensconced in budget conversations with little time left for any major agreements.

It’s this kind of political BS that we need to call out. The grandstanding and promises mean little if they don’t translate into action. As voters and citizens, we need to hold our elected officials accountable for their promises and demand transparency in their actions.

So, here’s to cutting through the BS and demanding more from our political leaders. After all, we deserve more than just a pile of promises.

  1. The situation in the New York State Senate highlights the all-too-familiar scenario of political grandstanding without tangible results. It’s disappointing to witness bills that aim to help the working- and middle-cl#flops# population get stuck in a cycle of stalled progress. Voters must demand more than just rhetoric from their elected officials and push for real action and accountability.

It’s disheartening to see grand promises fall flat due to stalled bills and lack of agreements. Holding elected officials accountable and demanding transparency is crucial in ensuring they deliver on their promises.

Holding them accountable and demanding transparency is key to ensuring they deliver on their promises. Let’s keep pushing for real change and not settle for empty words.

  3. Ah, the cl#flops#ic tale of political promises as s#flops#y as a house of cards. It’s like watching a magic show where the rabbit never actually appears. Maybe it’s time for our elected officials to trade in their capes for some actual work ethic.

  6. Another day, another round of political theatrics. It’s like watching a never-ending soap opera where the plot never progresses. Maybe instead of press conferences, they should try some actual legislation. Just a thought.
