The Trump-Club for Growth Tango: A Dance of Political BS

Hey there Folks!
Melvin P. Atwater here and you’re not gonna believe the big old Bag of BS I have for you today!
I’m sure a few of you will call BS on it, but it’s on the internet so it must be real! Quantum Universe and all, you know. Maybe not here and maybe not now, but somewhere, somehow.
The logic is infallible!
-Sincerely,
Melvin P. Atwater

In the world of politics, BS is as common as a politician’s promise. And the recent rapprochement between former President Donald Trump and the Club for Growth is a perfect example of this.

The two have been at war with each other for the past year, with the Club for Growth even launching a multi-million-dollar TV ad campaign aimed at sinking Trump in early primary states. But now, they seem to have buried the hatchet, with Trump and Club for Growth President David McIntosh meeting for dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

This hot-cold relationship between Trump and the conservative organization is nothing new. It dates back to the 2016 Republican primary, when the Club for Growth spent heavily to stop Trump from winning the nomination. Despite this, Trump and McIntosh managed to forge a relationship during his presidency, with McIntosh even emerging as an informal adviser in Trump’s post-White House years.

However, their relationship hit a snag during the 2022 Ohio Senate primary, when Trump backed J.D. Vance and the Club for Growth endorsed a rival candidate, Josh Mandel. This led to a vulgar text message from Trump to McIntosh, a perfect example of the kind of BS that can occur when political alliances are tested.

The Club for Growth’s decision not to invite Trump to a donor retreat, and Trump’s subsequent blasting of the group as the ‘Club for No Growth’, further highlights the fickleness of these political relationships.

So, what can we learn from this? That in politics, alliances are as stable as a cow pie on a hot day. They can change at the drop of a hat, or in this case, at the drop of a dinner invitation. And that, dear readers, is the kind of BS we’re here to expose.
