The West Side Story: Cornel West’s Presidential Bid and the BS of Politics

Hey there Folks!
Melvin P. Atwater here and you’re not gonna believe the big old Bag of BS I have for you today!
I’m sure a few of you will call BS on it, but it’s on the internet so it must be real! Quantum Universe and all, you know. Maybe not here and maybe not now, but somewhere, somehow.
The logic is infallible!
-Sincerely,
Melvin P. Atwater

In the world of politics, where BS is as common as campaign promises, Cornel West, the public intellectual turned independent presidential candidate, insists his campaign is more than just a spoiler for President Joe Biden. He’s trying to get to the White House himself, and he’s not shy about it.

West stopped by POLITICO HQ for a wide-ranging, hour-plus conversation on everything from his path to the ballot to the crisis currently facing American higher education. He argued that his candidacy was more than just a spoiler for Biden and said his campaign is working to get on the ballot in dozens of states.

When asked about his decision to run for president, West responded with a typical dose of humor and wit, ‘I’ve often said you’ll find me in a crack house before you find me in the White House. I’ve said that on many occasions, because there’s more corruption in the White House … I don’t care which party is in there.’

West’s campaign is targeting a diverse electorate, including the youth vote, the Black vote, and trade union vote. He also mentioned an upcoming event, ‘Arabs for West,’ indicating a focus on Arab-American voters.

Despite his ambitious campaign, West doesn’t shy away from the possibility of being seen as a spoiler. ‘I don’t accept the spoiler category. I really don’t. A vote for Biden, a vote for Trump is a vote for Biden and a vote for Trump. And there may be slices of people who say ‘if I didn’t vote for West, I would have voted for Biden.’ But that’s not, to me, a spoiler. If you’re in the race, and you make a case and they vote for you, how do you become the spoiler?’

In the end, whether West’s campaign is a genuine bid for the presidency or a cleverly disguised spoiler for Biden, one thing is clear: in the world of politics, the BS never ends. And as we all know, BS makes for great fertilizer. So, let’s see what grows out of this political cow pie.

  1. It’s interesting to see Cornel West’s approach to his presidential campaign. While he denies being a spoiler, his focus on specific voter groups and his acknowledgment of the possibility of being seen as one raises doubts. However, in a system where corruption and BS are prevalent, it’s refreshing to see someone challenging the status quo. Only time will tell if West’s campaign will bear fruit or if it will be just another political cow pie.

  2. During his conversation at POLITICO HQ, Cornel West touched upon the crisis facing American higher education. This is an issue of great importance, as the accessibility and affordability of education have significant implications for the future of our society. It is commendable that West is addressing this issue as part of his campaign. It will be crucial to see how he proposes to tackle this crisis and what solutions he offers to ensure that higher education is accessible to all.

  3. This is just another example of a self-centered individual using the political arena for personal gain. West claims his campaign is more than a spoiler, but his actions and statements suggest otherwise. It’s infuriating to see someone play with the democratic process and potentially undermine the chances of a more qualified candidate. This kind of behavior only perpetuates the corruption and lack of integrity in politics.

  4. While Cornel West’s campaign may seem ambitious, it’s hard to ignore the possibility that he could be seen as a spoiler for President Biden. His focus on targeting diverse electorates and his humorous remarks about the White House raise questions about the sincerity of his bid for the presidency. However, in the world of politics, where BS is abundant, it’s not surprising to see unconventional candidates emerge.

In the end, the true intentions and impact of West’s bid for the presidency will become clearer as the race unfolds.

Let’s not dismiss his candidacy as a mere spoiler, but rather see it as a potential catalyst for change.

  9. Cornel West’s campaign for the presidency is certainly ambitious, targeting a diverse electorate and aiming to get on the ballot in multiple states.
